Alice is 60 years old with five grandchildren to care for. Three of her grandchildren came to live with her after their mother left to go and look for work. She never came back. The other two grandchildren were abandoned by her daughter-in-law after Alice's son died.
Alice wasn't sure how she would support five grandchildren until YOU gave her a micro-finance loan of 200,000 Ugandan Shillings ($54.65 USD) through her Granny Group. She used the funds to build up her already existing retail shop where she sells salt, soap, tomatoes, Irish potatoes, millet and maize flour, match boxes, food stuffs and soft drinks. She says the customers are always available and so she is able to get money for her to support herself and her grandchildren.
Right now YOU have a great opportunity to help more grandmothers like Alice!
Nyaka's Founder and Executive Director, Twesigye Jackson Kaguri, has been nominated for the Waislitz Global Citizen Award!
This award not only validates the wonderful work YOU make possible, it could also win Nyaka a prize of $100,000 to empower and educate YOUR students and their grandmothers in Uganda!
To win the award and the $100,000 prize for YOUR children, Jackson has to get the most votes!
Will you help by voting for Jackson today?
