Young people have been amongst those most affected by the current economic instability. Youth unemployment causes social exclusion, and in case of a protracted term of unemployment, it has negative consequences for their future prospects. Hence, adequate levels of education and trainings of young people promote access to better positions in the labor market and therefore, should increase their employability.
At Another Hope Children’s Ministries, we introduce our youth to education in a project called “Education For All” because we believe it is important for the youth because it helps them learn how to think critically, it enhances their creativity and imagination, it will expose them to new ideas, and helps them find the path to a career that they wish to pursue as an adult.
This is a story from one of our young adults that we sponsor, who has finished her course in Accounting this year.
I was born on June 26, 2000. I thank God for my education journey as well as Another Hope Children’s Ministries and my sponsors. I have been at Makerere University Business School where I have pursued a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. As a girl child, I feel so blessed to have attained this education level because it has impacted me in different ways.
Firstly, I have obtained knowledge about different things in life, and it has enabled me to grow and learn intellectually. Education has given me the ability to see the world in different ways. As a young woman, I learned about different aspects of life, and this is because of the knowledge I have obtained at university.
Secondly, because of education, I have learned to associate with different people and this has improved my communication skills. Education has enabled me to identify some skills that I have for instance: empathy, collaboration and communication skills. Education has enabled me to find my strengths and weaknesses.
As for now, I can be employed or self-employed in all aspects of Accountancy, and as I look for a job to use the knowledge I have obtained, I believe I will achieve much in my life. This is something that would have been impossible if I did not attain this education. I will always be grateful for my sponsors and Another Hope Children’s Ministries.
