The plans to continue helping the community of Don Diego, specially the education of children, continues advancing.
We are glad to communicate to our donors that in the last month , the number of boys and girls that have signed for one or more of the 15 programs that our Foundation has in place, has increased to 167 students, receiving after school help to get a solid education.
Today we will tell you about three improvements that will help the EDUCATION OF CHILDREN in this community.
In infrastructure , we are building external pergolas, to use as open classrooms, because the existing indoor class space is not enough to have five classes or workshops at the same time.
In the pictures you can see that besides the indoor classes, sometimes our teachers have children sitting in the outside yard , in the floor. And you can see also the nice and practical pergolas being finished. This will be not only more practical, but also more dignified and convenient space, protected from the sun and the rain. These children deserve it. For this we received a grant for part of the cost, and will be asking through GlobalGiving your matching donations .
Our Foundation team is aware to the importance of a detailed CHILD PROTECTION POLICY ,
For this purpose a committee of volunteers, teachers, and directors drafted a detailed document, with guidelines and regulations to make sure all children learn in a clean, comfortable safe environment.
Finally, we are aware that to provide better opportunities , much needed, to the young people of our community, we have to understand that a comprehensive education is much more than teaching mathematics , grammar , English and computers skills, and other academic topics. We have implemented music , ballet, and dance in order to provide more diverse program that allows children to develop in different areas, so that they become on responsible, sensitive, and empathic adults with the community where they live.
Also our field studies show that the young people psychological support, for them and their families, to become more self confident, and have a better learning environment. This Semester we have added to our staff another professional psychologist , for this purpose. I future report, we will explain these programs.
“ The causes for underdevelopment in rural communities are complex- said a recurrent donor that knows well our programs- what you are doing at Don Diego , addressing the issues from various angles, is the right approach”
