Expanding the education programs in the rural community with music, ballet , painting classes and a cine-club.

Our Foundation is convinced  that providing art classes to children between  the ages of 6 and 15 is very helpful in their integral education. In this rural community called Don Diego, the children and the youth do not have the means , or the access to cultural activities. The public school does not provide it,  and they cannot afford to pay private teachers for those classes.

Our teaching staff continues with the after school support in maths, reading, computer and sciences classes, with good results, But that is not enough for their integral education, and for their motivation to learn .

We have dedicated part of the DONATIONS RECEIVED from various generous donors,  some of them thru GLOBAL GIVING,  to build a new classroom  this summer, specially made for the area classes, and for multimedia , specially for showing educational videos and films, with a good 4k projector.

The children are very happy with the art music and ballet classes, this motivates them to frequent the education center, and it opens their mind , and motivates them

The small cine club,  is also a great tool to not only entertain them, but to show them movies that foster human values. Our teacher are using this tool, the cinema, in their academic work, to develop the creativity, and transmit information, knowledge, values and to develop social skills in the students.

Is is important to mention that most of these children and youth, in the rural area, do not have the money to visit the commercial movie  theaters of the near by town , San Miguel,  and do not have quality , big tv sets at home.For  many of them this new classroom with the big projector, is a blessing, and hopefully will help them in their education and social life, keeping them away from being vagabonds in the streets.

Objective of our Education program

Provide the means and the will.

In Mexican rural areas, as in many other in Latin-American countries, the public schools lack adequate infrastructure,  didactic materials, technology and teaching staff. The limited  government public resources are dedicated mostly to urban areas. In general the private, expensive, private school have more means for providing education to children.

In our Foundation´s Education Center , at the community called Don Diego, we are providing the means to eliminate the existing  gap of opportunities  for these children , compared to private school . We are complementing their public education, with the help of trained teachers, a library, and technology with two computer labs. 

But that is nor enough. 

An important cause for underdevelopment in education in these rural areas,  besides the lack of means, is the mindset. ( Laurence E. Harrison explains this in his interesting book “Underdevelopment is in the mind, the Latin American case). In the community that we adopted we witness this. There is in many of the individuals, not in all,  a lack of motivation to look for a better level of education. There is an unconscious conformism;  if their grandparents and parents were analphabets and poor, so they will be.  In their mental state, they feel defeated before trying for a better life. Less than 5% aspire to get a College degree. The reasons of this are several.

In the Mission of Fundación Comunitaria Don Diego,  we look for a comprehensive development of the community,  and we know that for them to obtain a better education as mean to reach a higher level of development, our team has to work in giving them, the            WILL to succeed .

And by this we mean a better standard of living , - not money for the sake of it-,  but  better education that will provide them the economic means  that will make them productive and independent,  with stability for their families, a healthier and longer life. It means to  make them better human beings, that will contribute to the development of their community and their country.

We are happy to see that some of our students understand these; a few of them that have advanced to higher education,   and a few of them with good jobs, already want to find ways to The new multimedia classroom that this Foundation is finishing, will be helpful to open the rural children minds. We program to have in it classes of music, ballet, painting, and also a projection room for videos and films that will surely motivate and enlighten the children teenagers.
