International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Dear Donors,

We are pleased to share a summary of the activities held in honor of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. For the third consecutive year, this event took place across multiple campuses of the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente, with invaluable support from the coordinators of the Peraj program.

From February 8 to 15, a series of initiatives were organized to spark interest among girls and young women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), highlighting the crucial role of women in science and promoting gender equity in these fields. Key activities included:

Inspiring Talks and Lectures: Women scientists and academics shared their experiences and achievements in science and technology.
Interactive Workshops: Students and faculty engaged in hands-on scientific demonstrations and activities to encourage learning and curiosity.
Science Exhibitions and Fairs: Dedicated spaces showcased research and projects led by women at the university.
Discussion Panels: Experts and students discussed challenges and opportunities for women in science.

The participating campuses, all part of the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente in the state of Culiacán, included: Los Mochis, Guasave, Guamúchil, Culiacán, Mazatlán, El Rosario, and Escuinapa.

These efforts play a crucial role in closing the gender gap in science and technology. By shining a light on women leaders in STEM, we inspire young girls to explore their potential, build confidence, and envision new possibilities for their future. Additionally, we foster a culture of equity and inclusion in education and professional development, ensuring that female talent has equal opportunities to grow and succeed.

Thanks to your support and commitment, we have reached thousands of students and raised awareness about the importance of inclusion and female empowerment in the scientific field. We firmly believe that initiatives like these contribute to a more equitable society with greater opportunities for future generations.

Welcome to the New School Year with Peraj!

Dear Donors,

We are pleased to inform you that we have begun a new school year with great enthusiasm in the Peraj program. Thanks to your generous support, we can continue our mission of transforming lives through comprehensive mentoring for children in vulnerable conditions and at risk of dropping out of school.

This new school year marks the beginning of new opportunities and challenges. We have welcomed a diverse and talented group of children and youth. Together, we will engage in activities designed to strengthen academic skills, boost self-confidence, and foster values of responsibility and commitment.

We are proud to announce that the Polytechnic University of Tulancingo, in the state of Hidalgo, has joined us, starting with 20 pairs (children and mentors). This new addition expands our reach and allows us to positively impact more students.

Additionally, we have begun negotiations with the Autonomous University of Yucatán, joining efforts to extend the program in the southeast of the country. This expansion will enable us to bring the positive impact of Peraj to other communities, benefiting more children who need our support.

Your donations have been fundamental in providing educational resources, teaching materials, and organizing workshops and activities that enrich the experience of our beneficiaries. Thanks to you, more children have the opportunity to discover their potential and achieve their goals.

We want to continue sharing with you inspiring stories of children who once faced academic and personal difficulties and are now achieving significant accomplishments thanks to the guidance and support they received from the Peraj program. These stories are a testament to the positive impact of Peraj and the transformative power of your generosity.

Closure of the School Year at UNAM

Dear Donors,

We are pleased to inform you about the successful conclusion of activities for the 2023-2024 school year of the Peraj Mexico program, implemented in various institutions of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

This year, the participating schools were the General Directorate of Guidance and Educational Assistance (DGOAE), the Faculty of Higher Studies (FES) Zaragoza, FES Acatlán, ENES Morelia, and FES Aragón.

It is worth noting that the partnership with UNAM has been fundamental to the continued success of Peraj Mexico. Twenty years ago, we started this program in collaboration with UNAM, and since then, we have worked together to expand and strengthen our activities. UNAM has been a key pillar in the development and growth of our program, providing the resources, support, and infrastructure necessary to positively impact the lives of thousands of children and young people.

Some of the activities carried out included:

- Academic and socio-emotional mentoring

- Personal development workshops

- Visits to museums and cultural events

- Recreational and sports activities

Number of mentor-mentee couples during the school year

- DGOAE: 90

- FES Acatlán: 85

- FES Aragón: 50

- FES Zaragoza: 20

- ENES Morelia: 7

Total for the school year: 252

The 2023-2024 school year has been a period of great achievements and growth for the students participating in the Peraj Mexico program at UNAM institutions. Thanks to the generous support of donors from the GlobalGiving platform, we have been able to provide a comprehensive education, positively impacting the lives of hundreds of young people.
