The experience of teenage mothers is surrounded by stigma because Tanzanian society is largely patriarchal. It regards girls who get pregnant while in school as immoral, even if they were raped. For this reason, in addition to poverty, many teenage mothers lack support from their families.
Tanzania Development Trust has been working with Tumaini Open School in Tabora to ensure that girls excluded from education by pregnancy get a second chance at an education.
To enhance and broaden the curriculum thanks to donors like you we have supported the school with computers and software. Girls now have weekly zoom calls with experts from all over the world, as well as within Tanzania.
Mercy says "I had never used a computer before I came to Tumaini – now I feel I am well prepared for my future and to support my daughter".
So thank you again for enabling such opportunities by your generosity.
