Be a hero for vulnerable children in Mexico

On a sunny afternoon in the Monte Alban neighborhood, JP, a boy full of energy and curiosity, was helping his mother improve the classrooms at Crecemos DIJO Center. Like any child his age, JP's vitality was contagious, but his hyperactivity often led him to explore without thinking of the consequences. While running through the classroom, he tripped and fell to the floor. His mother, focused on the task at hand, immediately scolded him, without stopping to check if he was okay.

For many mothers in this community, the daily concern of surviving and protecting their children from the dangers of the neighborhood sometimes results in a strict disciplinary approach. JP's mother was no exception. Raised on the streets, her life had been a constant struggle to move forward, and in that moment, she couldn’t see beyond the need to teach her son to be more careful.

However, So, one of Crecemos DIJO’ dedicated workers, witnessed JP's fall. With a heart full of empathy, she quickly approached, helping the boy up and making sure he wasn’t hurt. So tried to comfort JP with a hug, but he resisted, his eyes filled with tears, desperately seeking comfort from his mother.

Understanding the situation, So gently approached JP's mother. With patience and care, she explained the importance of changing the mindset of scolding at the first sign of danger and instead, showing affection and care. She talked to her about how, through love and understanding, they could break the cycle of violence that affected so many families like theirs.

That day, both JP and his mother learned an invaluable lesson. JP learned that it’s okay to be a child and make mistakes, and his mother realized that sometimes what her son really needs is a hug and the assurance that he is safe and loved.

Crecemos DIJO is dedicated not only to educating the children of Oaxaca but also their parents. Through this comprehensive approach, we are helping to break the cycle of poverty that condemns so many children to not reaching their full potential. With every hug, with every word of encouragement, we are building a future where these children can flourish, both in school and in life.

Isaías Guzmán is a man from the Mixtec culture, father of Génesis and Elías, two children who have been part of Crecemos DIJO for some time.

"Forty years ago, if I had known about this incredible organization, my perspective on life would have been completely different," reflects Isaías. His words resonate with gratitude towards the people who work on the project and contribute financially, those who have positively impacted the lives of his children and his own.

Since their early steps, Crecemos DIJO organization became synonymous with opportunities for them. Teaching them the value and importance of nourish meal, which they have learned through the experience provided by Crecemos DIJO.

"I always encourage the kids to be good men and women, to value the support they receive in school and in every daily aspect of their lives," he shares with emotion. It is evident that the Guzmán family has become an active pillar within the community, attending meetings and contributing their bit to continue fostering culture and personal growth.

Today, Isaías and his family continue to be excited and grateful for the support provided. With these words, on behalf of their children and their family, they express a profound "Thank you" to all those who have been part of this transformative journey.
