Be a hero for vulnerable children in Mexico

In the month of October the annual sports tournament of Crecemos DIJO was held, which had the motto: Compete to share, and aimed to promote healthy and peaceful coexistence among children who attend our socio-sports schools. The tournament was held in San Francisco Chindúa rural community in the Mixteca region of Oaxaca with the participation of 100 children from 5 different schools.
For Crecemos DIJO, sport is fundamental in the development of children, for this reason we offer spaces in which children practice sports from an educational perspective complemented with values promotion, school monitoring, academic reinforcement, surveillance and nutritional education, skills for Life, among others.
The promotion of values is a characteristic feature of training (basketball or soccer) for example: arriving on time, being responsible, respecting their peers or working in teams are values that children have acquired in a colony with high rates of violence. This is already a very important achievement that can be given a space in which more than 100 families live harmoniously.
The school is also an important pillar in the child's life, and our goal is to ensure that children can have higher school levels and do not drop out of school at the basic level and then be in criminal gangs. To achieve this goal, academic tutoring is provided, thanks to which it has been possible to raise the academic level of children and keep them in school.
With nutritional surveillance it has been possible to reduce malnutrition rates and improve the eating habits of children and their families.
Thanks to your contribution Crecemos DIJO continues to work for the children of Oaxaca with models that impact their life and development.

In Crecemos DIJO we are convinced that education is the key and detonating aspect for the development of a community, for this reason, all our actions are developed through an educational method that allows children to have an adequate development, even in adverse contexts.
One of the biggest challenges has been to promote children's reading especially in areas of poverty, where access to books is scarce. In response to this need, 7 Children's Libraries have been launched in rural communities of Oaxaca. Children in these communities can now enjoy a wide variety of children's literature books specially selected to encourage them to enjoy reading. With the Children's Library project, quality literature that allows them to expand their knowledge and culture is made available to children, in addition to developing skills and abilities such as memory, language, imagination and creativity.
The teacher Alejandra testifies:
“… We as a school take great care of the processes that drive children's development, so we are very grateful to the library, because one of the factors that impede quality processes is the economic factor: those books are very expensive! (15 USD the cheapest). We leave the prices to the books, so that we all know that they are valuable and that we must take care of them. Everyone knows that Oaxaca has a lot of cultural wealth, but also a lot of poverty, so the social, cultural, political and educational impact that this reading space can generate is very high, because it starts in the classroom, but is replicated at home , our purpose is to generate a long-term reading community. The Ministry of Public Education does give us books but many years go by without updating, here in the community there is a library but there are few books and they are old, that is why we feel very lucky, because this does not have any school and that is why we try take advantage of it and that the objective is achieved, because it is of no use that they have brought it and do not work it, we are very grateful to Crecemos SAJO because they are spaces that children need. We are happy since they notified us that they would support us with the library; We started to paint together with parents, thanks to this, our school also has murals, because the happiness of making our library a beautiful space encouraged us to have every school like that. Parents are very grateful because they perceive that this is a good for their children..."
Mrs. Guadalupe, mother of the family also shared her testimony:
“… My children can take the books home, they read, and since I have more small children at home they are also involved in reading. The teachers made a competition that consisted of reading a story and then decorating the apron according to the story. We chose the story "I'm not Little Red Riding Hood", and we were the winners. For me, as a mom it was a very nice experience, because in this time of doing the apron I lived much more with my daughter, we worked together and with great care, I think that is the most important thing, I never imagined that reading would join me more to my children..."

Reading is an interactive process in which an important relationship is established between the book and the child that contributes to the development of cognitive areas of the brain and emotional development. The importance of acquiring this habit from an early age is based on its benefits when studying, acquiring knowledge and the possibility that children experience sensations and feelings with which they enjoy, mature and learn, laugh and dream.
