Awareness Education Program for Sanitary Workers

By V.Alamelu Bannan | Project Leader

in our region women and children of the marginalised communities are highly vulnerable for bonded labour system and manaual scavenging. At work places they are exploited because of lack of awareness. in this regard, our organization organized an Awareness Education Program at Tharamanagalam block, Salem district, targeting 75 women sanitary workers. The program aimed to raise awareness about social security entitlements, workplace safety, and alternate employment opportunities.

Key Highlights

  1. Social Security Awareness:
    • Participants were informed about state government benefits for their welfare.
  2. Workplace Safety:
    • Emphasis on using protective tools to prevent health hazards.
  3. Insights by Experts:
    • Mrs. V. Alamelu discussed challenges such as low wages, long work hours, and lack of dignity.
    • She urged participants to educate their children and seek better job opportunities.
    • Mr. Radhakrishnan encouraged collective efforts for empowerment.
  4. Community Engagement:
    • Mrs. Mathammal, a community leader, expressed support and delivered the vote of thanks.

Outcomes

  • Enhanced awareness about rights, workplace safety, and available benefits.
  • Encouragement to focus on education and alternate employment.
  • Collective commitment to environmental conservation.

Conclusion

The program empowered sanitary workers by addressing their challenges and promoting sustainable practices. Our organization remains dedicated to uplifting marginalized communities.
