Tutoring classes for the children in rural area

Dear kind donors,

As schools are still closed since March, more and more children have learning difficulties since most of them have to learn on their own. In rural areas of Indonesia, where parents are working all day and/or have low levels of education, they are unable to support their children’s learning.

With your donation, we are facilitating small group learning sessions and providing tutoring activities for primary school students who struggle in reading, writing, and math. The tutoring classes run every afternoon. Each group has a maximum of 5 students taught by 1 tutor. They attend classes twice a week and the lesson goes for one and a half hours.

These learning activities also extend to schools in the area whereby the students are tutored by their school teacher. Once a week a group of 10 students either gather at their teacher's home or at one of the student's homes to attend two hours of ‘face to face’ class. Your donation supports school materials for these students and an incentive for the teacher as part of the tutoring program.

In our own facilities, the activity takes place in the library so kids are free to use any of its properties in order to support their learning process. YUM is very strict with the Covid-19 prevention protocol. All visitors, including the children, must wear a mask, wash their hands, have their body temperature checked, and maintain social distancing.  At times, it’s a challenge for our tutor to constantly remind the children to keep their masks on and keep a distance from one to another during the session.

On a final note, we will be participating in this year’s #GivingTuesday campaign on GlobalGiving. We’d love you to join us and donate to this project because GlobalGiving has $1,000,000 in matching funds for all donations received on December 1st! Will you help us provide more tutoring classes to children living in rural areas?

In solidarity,

Yolanda
