Pedal Power for Kenyan Education
By John Roccanova | Director
Hello Donors,
We hope you are all safe and well during this stressful time. Thank you for your past support for the Pedal Power for Kenyan Education bicycle project. Because of the current pandemic, we have decided that at this time it would be best NOT to participate in the Little x Little campaign. Please consider a donation to a COVID-19 fundraiser.
We hope that you will continue to support Pedal Power in the future. There will be a bonus day in July and another Little x Little matching campaign in September.
In the meantime, stay safe and be well.
Sincerely,
John and Jean Roccanova

Bicycles Bring Benefits!

A safety vest is provided to each student.
The goal of supporting St. Mary’s School in Nambale with 50 Buffalo Bicycles and accessories has been reached, and surpassed! By the end of the week, 53 students will have bicycles to use during the school year to help reduce the time of their 5-6 mile commutes to and from school. The time saved is used for studying, working on family farms, and caring for siblings. An added bonus is that the girls feel safer riding to school.
News of this success has spread throughout Nambale sub-county. Students improved their attendance, promptness, and academic performances. Four other area schools are requesting funding to offer similar programs. We would like to provide Buffalo Bicycles, helmets, safety vests, and tool kits to each of the schools one at a time.
We hope that you support this program during GlobalGiving’s Little x Little campaign in March. More details will be forthcoming.

Hellen Mukanda, director of Grow Against Poverty – Kenya has received national recognition for the work that she has been doing with Pedal Power for Kenyan Education and other programs and projects. She was recognized for “exemplary and consistent community development initiatives with outstanding results” at a ceremony in Mombasa that was led by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Grow Against Poverty is almost at its fundraising goal for providing 50 bicycles, helmets, safety vests, and tool kits for student use at St. Mary’s School in Nambale, Kenya. Over the fifteen months that the program has been operating, student attendance, promptness, and test scores have all improved. Students who had to walk 5-6 miles each way to and from school now have extra time for studying, helping with family farms, care of siblings, and hopefully for some fun.
Four neighboring schools have requested funds for a similar program. With your continued support, we would like to provide the bicycles and accessories one school at a time. We will be reaching out to donors for our Giving Tuesday and Year-End Campaigns.
