TZOTZIL WOMENS EMPOWERMENT

By Miguel Martin | Project Leader

During the last 3 months, the women artisans have continued with their business training processes, which has strengthened their business skills and capacities, their transformational leadership and their human development. At the collective level, their Social Enterprises are in a consolidation stage through the appropriation of the knowledge acquired in the workshops.

In order to generate income for their households and contribute to their economic empowerment, they have become involved with various fair trade clients who recognize and value their work. The generation of their own income allows the artisans to participate in decision-making at the family level.

The artisans' production processes have improved, they have strengthened their design skills and generate competitive, high-quality products.

Their social enterprises have an organizational infrastructure that has been democratically elected and recognized by the artisans; they are aware of their rights, obligations and corrective measures, which has enabled them to strengthen cohesion, establish transparency and accountability mechanisms, and make decisions.

At the regional level, exchanges of experiences have been generated with the objective of sharing, exchanging and recognizing the good practices implemented in their businesses, in order to learn collectively, recognizing all the knowledge that the craftswomen have.

The methodology of accompaniment combines theory with practice and it is in the production where the knowledge acquired by the artisans during the workshops is materialized, the collections that have been made can be purchased at the online store of the Binational Network www.matat.org and on the platforms of our strategic allies such as https://ensambleartesano.org/.
