Emi loves to read!
Seven-year-old Emi is her mom´s only child and her dad´s 7th child. As a 2nd grader, Emi loves to read books, play with her Chihuahua and two street dogs, Dingo and Doqui.
Her father lost his job as a taxi driver when the pandemic lockdowns began in Cabo, and after three months with no income, they had to move from the apartment they could no longer afford. With no income, housing was limited to invasion land “up hill” where they found shelter in a cardboard hut with steel sheets for a roof. “Up hill” there are no basic services – no running water, no sewer systems, or electricity and no internet for Emi´s education. “There has been a big education lag for Emi” and since the pandemic, she has been bored and has no friends,” tells her mother.
“I miss going to school and playing with my girlfriends, but what I miss the most is to read aloud in class,” Emi says holding a chihuahua with her left arm and a book in her right hand. Her mom enjoys sharing Emi´s dream of becoming a teacher when she grows up!
This is one of the many families Sarahuaro is helping through the pandemic, not only with the daily meal for Emi, but with food bags for her mother who walks thirty minutes down the hill to get. She is very grateful for this help.
We love what we do and want to do more for children and their families in Cabo, Mexico
