Dear Devoted LI Supporter,

I am so proud to tell share with you the success of our Literacy Training program and how the success of key business owners receiving literacy training has allowed to exponentially grow and provide more for their communities, their families and themselves.

Over the course of the last year Raibu and several others have learned to write in English and are now communicating with Leadership Initiatives International Business Alliance Program students.

Together they are creating new solutions to problems Raibu is facing and creating new ways to create an even stronger and ever growing electrical grid. Raibu is now able to read instructions and ideas sent to him by students to teach him new ways to repair and construct electrical wiring and components.

Below is Raibu's effect on the community because of the your generous donation and support.

Rabiu’s Electrical shop has connected multiple homes and businesses to the Bauchi electrical grid and has worked to restore old buildings and structures so they can support electrical devices. The impact of these efforts cannot be overstated. Because of Rabiu and his team’s efforts, jobs have been created throughout Bauchi and more families can benefit from everything that a home with power has to offer.

Rabiu also sells electrical equipment including televisions, stereos, lighting products and more. This is especially important because many people in his community lack the transportation necessary to travel to other areas that sell these products.

Rabiu’s Electrical shop also does pro-bono work restoring and connecting electricity for those who cannot afford his services, allowing their families to grow even when they are struggling economically.

Rabiu has also taken in six young teens and helps provide for their food, board, education and skills training so they can one day find employment in the field of electrical repair.

Transforming the lives or orphans in Nigeria

In this report, Leadership Initiatives would like to introduce one of our Leadership Initiative’s Business Owners- Abdulhadi. Abdulhadi's life changed forever about 6 years ago, when he came across LI Business Alliance Program. He was one of the first beneficiaries on the Tailoring skill acquisition program of IBAP. Since then, Abdulhadi’s life has been dramatically influenced and totally changed by LI’s direct impact on him and indirect impact on his family, friends and his community at large.

Abdulhadi is the first born of his family and the breadwinner since his father’s death. He has sponsored Himself and all his siblings in school from the income he makes from his business. He has also made tremendous impact in his community as his business employs about 20 people; who work as apprentice with the business. Some of those people include orphans, secondary school students; undergraduate and even university graduates who wanted to learn the tailoring skill and business.

Abdulhadi has built a strong reputation and a good name for himself within the community because of the number of jobs he provides. He is proud to be a part of LI and seeks to provide great opportunities for people in his community, the way LI has done for him.

Thank you for changes lives on person at a time

Auwal's Shop

Dear Astonishing Leadership Initiatives donor,

Because of you Leadership Initiatives has added a new English Literacy component to our business training programs, that will help business owners and their co-workers expand their services to new markets by working with them to translate their work through basic English speaking and literacy training.

I want to take a moment and highlight one individual who has undergone this training and what it means to our programs.

The son of a fisherman and a tailor, Auwal’s parents always had high expectations for him. Auwal lived in Maiduguri, Borno state before the Boko Haram crisis began. Because of the terrorism crisis, his parents slowly lost their financial standing due to less tourism and trade with their state, and could not afford to finance Auwals’ education beyond the primary level. Eventually, he and 8 of his siblings left Maiduguri for Bauchi to seek a better life and job opportunities.

Auwal was taken in by a relative in Bauchi where he was allowed to train as a motorcycle repair apprentice. After working there for years and saving money between himself and his family members to open up his own shop he was ready to strike out on his own.

In 2013 Auwal became part of the Leadership Initiatives Business Creation Program where he learned business management skills, motorcycle repair training and with LI’s help found additional local funding to get his repair shop off the ground.

His business has quickly taken off attracting business as a repair shop and one day soon Auwal hopes to also sell motorcycles as well. As the 5th born of 17 in his family Auwal has taken it upon himself to provide for his brothers and sisters, he currently assists all 7 of his siblings living with or near him in Bauchi State and sends money and other gifts to his parents and siblings still living in Maidiguri.

Because of the support Auwal’s siblings in Bauchi have become carpenters, painters, tailors and brick-layers making both of his parents proud and grateful of Auwal success and devotion to helping his family grow.
