War in the Northern part of Ethiopia and conflicts in Oromia and Benishangul Regions have impacted civilians and residents in terms of massive internal displacements, The expansion of the northern Ethiopia crisis beyond Tigray into neighboring Amhara and Afar regions has caused massive displacement Further to this, the recent fighting in the Afar region and Ongoing active fighting in Benishangul Gumuz in several other regions of the country, namely parts of Oromia and Benishangul Gumuz regions also caused the displacement of thousands of people. War and conflict Ethiopia's war not only resulted in huge human costs but also impacted civilians and residents in terms of widespread destruction of livelihoods, damage to agricultural productivity, and property assets.
As a result of having to resort to survival, many fled to urban areas like Bahirdar to seek assistance in great numbers A rapid assessment was conducted in by MHO during a recent visit to the region So far there are many displaced people from Amharal sheltered in public spaces, schools and meeting halls,. While others have set up temporary make-shift shelters, some are staying with relatives and others are out in the open. There is a huge gap in nutrition, food, WASH, NFIs, and health service provision, including mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and protection. It is urgent to pre-position supplies, particularly access to basic services
.Further to this a rapid assessment conducted by MHO Urban Destitute support/UDS/ project in Addis Ababa shows that. there are many displaced people from different parts of the country including in Benishangul with no basic services sheltered in Addis in public spaces, while others have set up temporary make-shift shelters, In addition, there are about 70,000 forced returns from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) arrived in Addis Ababa, of which many not reach their areas of origin and many end up stranded in Addis Ababa
On top of this, there are an estimated 11,000 unassisted IDPs and refugees in Addis Ababa.
This created a new wave of humanitarian needs as Tigrai, the humanitarian situation continued to be dire with a high number of variable people in need of support while the response and available resources are still insufficient to meet the amounting needs in the region. This is further exacerbated by y ongoing hostilities and drought. . As a result not only do Communities living in conflict-affected districts of Ethiopia continue to face suffering from a lack of basic health services but also Communities having to resort to survival fled to urban areas due to conflict Particularly children and women among severely affected. To address this MHO as a front runner in Humanitarian activities and as the founder ‘Ethiopia’s Mother on helping Ethiopia's and helping impoverished women, MHO tried to raised 3000 through GlobalGiving platform to help life-saving to displaced families Although the raised money not sufficient given the current unmet humanitarian. Thanks to our generous donors, with this donation, MHO managed and reached out to 75 women with children by providing basic needs which include nutrition, food, shelter, clothes and WASH, NFIs, and health and psychological support for displaced children who have been suffering from psychological trauma and lack other basic needs. We, Ethiopians, recall with great pride and a sense of gratitude that the individual and corporate donors and GlobalGiving have been financially supporting affected communities constituting key vulnerability within the context of looming humanitarian crises facing increased exposure to different risks including gender-based violence due to inadequate service provision
