The HOPE Africa staff recently visited the Nomonde Early Childhood Development (ECD) center in Langa to deliver a food hamper. This hamper, while modest in size, was received with gratitude by the staff at the center, as it provides essential meals for three days. The delivery aimed to support the children during a challenging time, ensuring they have access to nutritious meals. We believe that small gestures like this can make a meaningful difference in the community, fostering hope and resilience.
Staff also went out to visit the Masande Early Childhood Development center in Khayelitsha and met Khaya, the new principal. After his mother's death two years ago, he promised to keep the creche running, but he struggles with funding and currently has only four children enrolled. He’s reaching out to HOPE Africa for help with registration, as he can't afford to pay teachers, and some families cannot cover education costs. Previously, Khaya’s mother received support that allowed free enrolment. We suggested he contact the ward councillor, but Khaya mentioned there's been no assistance. Despite challenges like vandalism, he works hard to maintain the center and wants to improve security by building a solid wall and installing a gate. We put together a small parcel for the creche for the three learners he currently had.
