Nelson Mandela Day is an international day to honour and celebrate the legacy of South Africa’s first democratically elected late President. Each citizen is encouraged to give 67 minutes or more of their time to do good, expecting nothing in return. 67 Represents the number of years Nelson Mandela spent in prison – or in service to his country.
HOPE Africa worked in partnership with young men from Bishops’ College this Mandela Day to provide food and spend time with the children of Leliebloem Children’s Home.
Leliebloem is a residential facility for children from the age of four to eighteen who come from troubled homes. The home offers a safe, loving space to the children while in their care. Service that are offered include counselling, therapy, re-unification programmes with families, etc.
The Bishops’ boys spent the morning playing with the children, drawing pictures with them and encouraging them to continue with school as education is the key to the future. They shared stories of the different schools they attended and the communities they come from
Together, we donated food parcels to the Home and snack packs to all the children at the shelter. Dignity packs were also given to the girls.
It is the intention for Bishops’ boys to visit the Home either annually or quarterly as their school schedule allows.
HOPE Africa will deliver at least five more food hampers to Early Childhood Development centres within a week. Thank you for your generous support to our work!
God bless
