Residents of Sgubudwini, Mthatha in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa were engulfed by a huge storm towards the end of 2021. A total of 84 families were left destitute and required assistance with food and other supplies.
Through a partnership with the local leadership, HOPE Africa was able to provide relief to the families in the form of food parcels. The food parcels contained nutritional essentials for the families which did not have any food at the time. 44 food parcels were organized and distributed in the headman's place in the presence of Vicar General with members of the Chapter.
It was a heart moving event where the beneficiaries acknowledged in public that this assistance came at a time where they had nowhere to turn to. "As a single mother I will be putting a smile on the face of my children as they will go to school with something in their stomachs, that will make them perform better in school" said one of the beneficiaries.
