3 Generations has worked tirelessly for more than 10 years to raise awareness concerning all of the issues surrounding sex trafficking. We believe it to be a human rights abuse that is an ever growing problem. One that mostly goes unpunished.
We were extremely pleased and relieved when the NXIVm co-founder and cult leader was sentenced to 120 years in prison. He was found guilty last year of racketeering and sex trafficking charges. The story of his control and domination over countless women and girls within his cult is sadly not a novelty. This type of situation plays out in many cities and towns all over the United States. The majority of sex trafficking victims never get justice or the media attention that this and other recent high profile cases have garnered.
Nationally, around 4.8 million people have been trafficked for forced sexual exploitation. Women and girls account for 71% of these victims. Women of color and indigenous populations are the most vulnerable to these situations. Sex trafficking generates an estimated $99 billion a year in revenue making it the second-largest source of profit from organized crime groups behind drug trafficking. It is a booming industry that thrives because there is high demand. Much more work needs to be done federally and locally to stop the exploitation of trafficked people within this country. We will continue to shine a light on this subject and give victims of this horrendous human rights abuse a platform to tell their stories.
