The Chamos Nutritional Recovery Programme has made significant progress in recent months, and we couldn’t have achieved any of this without your generosity. Thank you!
Taking a holistic approach to combat malnutrition, our programme initially focused on providing milk formula to malnourished babies, but has since expanded to encompass various strategies to address malnutrition from different angles:
Incorporating Water Purification Sachets:
Understanding the critical role of clean water in nutrition and health, with our partner Procter & Gamble we now include water purification sachets for parents to mix with the milk formula. This initiative aims to mitigate waterborne diseases, reducing gastrointestinal diseases in babies that lead to poor food absorption and impede the weight gain of malnourished babies.
Integration of Therapeutic Food:
Since February, we have enhanced our programme with the introduction of ready-to-use therapeutic foods - an essential lifesaving treatment to further bolster the nutritional intake of children and malnourished breastfeeding mothers. The food comes as a fortified paste of protein, fats, and essential vitamins, designed to treat severe and acute levels of malnutrition.
Monthly Educational Workshops:
Once a month we organise and support the facilitation of seminars for parents and caregivers, led by a highly experienced pediatrician. These classes provide vital tools and knowledge about children's health and nutrition. Topics range from breastfeeding and neurodevelopment to the importance of clean water and sanitation, and are integral to our holistic approach to improve the overall health of the child and their family.
The Chamos Nutritional Recovery Programme not only addresses immediate nutritional needs but today is effectively providing long-term educational tools and resources for families to help themselves.
Through these efforts, and your support we aspire to make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of children in Venezuela. We couldn’t do this without you, thank you for your support!
