Chamos Health Programmes for Children in Venezuela

As we begin 2023, we're looking ahead and making exciting plans for the year to come. But before we launch into another year of ambitious projects, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on everything that your support helped us to achieve through our Children's Health Programme in 2022. 

Last year, you helped us raise over $16,000 to improve health outcomes for children in Venezuela. This went towards supporting a range of incredible projects - all with the common aim of promoting healthy development, dignity and understanding, especially amongst vulnerable groups. This included:

• Completing the distribution of a container of 100 specialised paediatric wheelchairs to children with disabilities in 12 states across the country. 90% of these children had never had a wheelchair before; and none of them had ever had a specialised wheelchair (which is adjusted to each child and provides postural support - crucial for children with complex disabilities). 
• Supporting 120 malnourished babies and their mothers through a nutritional recovery programme - which provides milk, water purification sachets, and close monitoring and advice on a weekly basis. We have seen incredible results from this programme this year, especially from the distribution of the water purification powder, which makes a clear difference to the speed and effectiveness of the babies' weight gain.
• Visiting the remote community of La Marroquina twice - initially to assess the need and inform programme design, and latterly to deliver health and dental care, as well as community education sessions, to over 450 community members.
• Providing 380 students and 20 teachers with a daily arepa at school - improving nutrition at a crucial stage of development, helping concentration, and increasing attendance.
