Challenge Camp: Better Life for Children

I am a sponsored child in the Mustard Seed Mission, this year I came to help with the Mustard Seed Camp. It is the third year that I come to help. Every summer, I will come back to assist the Mustard Seed Mission to serve as the team leader. This year is my second time as a team leader in the camping program. From the two preparation training, we 9 team leader were getting more understanding and good relationship to one another.

On the first day of camping, we encountered heavy rain. We gathered at Taichung Railway Station to get on the tour bus. The whole body and shoes were soaked, and all the way we were groggy. When we arrived at the destination, we found that we are in the mountains, it seems that we would be isolated for three days.

In this camp, I played the role of "duty officer", and I guess this is probably the most annoying role for children! Duty officer has to maintain the order and control time of the camp. I was afraid that I will be hated by children these days. However, this role also gives me a better chance to get in touch with all the children. Observing their every move, I will find that they actually have places where I can learn.

I found that although some children are shy, they are willing to share their own experiences. Although they may only say a few words, I know that it is a breakthrough for them. In the next day's high-altitude adventure activities, some children may be afraid of high but they bravely went up to challenge, it is another breakthrough. Throughout the camp, I gradually found that some children, although somewhat inferior, have the potential to lead; some children may not be accustomed to leaving the mobile phone, but those days they were willing to participate in the whole event. From these children, you can see a lot of shiny qualities. You can see their faces are full of joys of cooperation in every session of camp.

On the last day, everyone had to write encouraging words to each other and stick them to others. In the beginning, I didn't expect to receive any note. After all, "duty officer" was always serious, but the result was completely beyond my imagination. I received nearly 20 praise notes! I am so touched that they didn't hate me.

During these three days, I also saw the growth and breakthrough of myself and other team leaders. I believe that all of us have different growths because of leading these children. Really thank you and the Mustard Seed Mission give me the opportunity to serve, learn and grow with everyone.

Life is like a book, we can enjoy the content and share it with others. In July, the Mustard Seed Mission conducted a CAMP for sponsored children.

In the camp, we let children to record their own video and guided them to resort their thought and make a story of it. It can help children to learn and practice how to express and release their emotions and descript their own issues. In the camp, teachers will lead the discussion and help children to descript their feeling and thought, even discuss the future change. We also let children tried to stand before all children and shared their story with everyone. A team leader's story touched many children's heart.

In the three days camp, children learn to express themselves, to share, to care, and to support one another! We hope every child could grow up, be strong, and be a reliable person in the future.
