We're nearly a third of the way to meeting our goal of establishing the first Amazon Research Station in Bolivia of its kind! We still require additional funds to initiate construction of our offices, however; the donations have helped us successfully build accommodations for our researchers! The new volunteer cabin has multiple rooms and beds to comfortably host international researchers with diverse projects focused on understanding the Aquicuana Reserve, and its inhabitants.
The reserve continues to face threats of slash and burn agriculture, wildlife poaching, mining and illegal logging. Our presence in the reserve will help us understand how to better combat these threats, while we help provide sustainable livelihood opportunities to local communities inside the reserve. With community support and quality research data, we can affect policy and increase protections to preserve this land for future generations.
Attached are pictures of the cabin. We hope to raise more funds in the coming months and establish the first-rate research center with a electricity, internet, computers and a library. We appreciate everyone's support and look forward to providing additional updates as this project advances.
