Amazon Research and Conservation Station

We are excited to report lots of advancements since our last project update. 

Last month, we had a special visit from a team with the US-based 501(c)3 non-profit, Kay Pacha.  Led by Founder Brian Sachson, Kay Pacha raised an additional $10,000 to further support the construction of the research station!  This marks the second installment of funds to support construction and the second team visit from Kay Pacha.  Kay Pacha continues to be our main partner in our efforts to study and protect the Aquicuana Reserve.

Over the last few weeks, we completed the foundation, raised the external walls, and placed nearly all the ceramic tile within the station.  We brought in an underground water line from our water tank located 150 meters away and built a grey-water treatment area.  We also made progress on the construction of two bathrooms and a shower located inside the station.  Additionally, we built two large rooms to securely store research equipment and supplies. 

Last month, we received a biologist from Belgium, Yosquin, who is working to create a detailed map of the Aquicuana Reserve.  This map will be go further than previous efforts and act as a guide for further exploration.  We also received a teacher from the USA who is spearheading our educational outreach program with the community Warnes.  The feedback from the community has been incredible as they are extremely grateful and excited for the continuation of this program.

We are making wonderful progress thanks to the support of Kay Pacha and friends.  While we have made incredible advancements, there is still much work to do.  We still haven’t fully finished the main construction.  We must also furnish and equip the station. 

We haven’t actively pursued a campaign to raise support for the research station in some time… but the time has come. We need your help.  This Tuesday, November 29^th, is Giving Tuesday and we are launching a new campaign.  Please help us in this incredibly important endeavor.  Help us increase the size and scope of the reserve.  Help us safeguard the protection of its plants and animals for future generations.  We can’t do it without your support. 

In late-October, we're receiving a group from the US to help us construct the second installment of the research station.  While we wait for their arrival, we continue to make progress, supporting human, plant and animal populations inside the reserve.

Last week we delivered a potable water project to another community inside the reserve.  We even brought out the mayor of Riberalta to hand over the project to the community.  The community can now access potable water through multiple distribution points spread strategically throughout their land. We will attach a couple of pictures.

We continue to host researchers and biologists despite lacking a formal research station.  Their research is providing new data about plant and animal life inside the reserve.  This data will help us attract more studies and raise awareness about the "value" of this land. 

We are grateful to all those who continue to support our work.  Our next update should show considerable movement in the construction of the station.  We need your help to protect this land and bring awareness to all life in the Bolivian Amazon.
