Empower the Careers of 10 Young African Scientists

Plans for the 66th London International Youth Science Forum are well underway and a number of high profile speakers have been secured including 2021 Chemistry Nobel Prize winner Sir David Macmillan. The Forum will take place between 24^th July and 7th August 2025.

We have distributed our new flyer to multiple African partners to expand the reach of our scholarship programme and are running an online information session early in 2025 to launch our recruitment activities for student selection for our scholarships.

As ever we are motivated in our endeavours by the students we support and the impact our scholarships have on their lives. Here are testimonials from some of our 2024 scholar students:

The 65th London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) took place between 24^th July and 7^th August 2024. The keynote address at the opening ceremony was delivered by Nobel Prize Winner Professor Gregory Winter. We offered ten scholarships for African students to attend the Forum in person. Of these Monica, Julia, Moses, Muthoni and Annah attended from Kenya, Abhinn attended from Mauritius, Isaac attended from Liberia, Memory attended from Zimbabwe and Ammar attended from Tanzania. Abhinn and Isaac were the first students to represent their respective countries at LIYSF and we were thrilled to see two new flags at the opening ceremony.

These African students took their place alongside over 420 other global young scientists for two weeks of lectures, debates, visits to science institutions and social and cultural interactions.

Due to a visa issue Albert from Tanzania unable to travel to London, but he did attend the Forum virtually through the online platform along with over 20 other YoSA funded students from Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Moses from Kenya wrote about his experiences at the Forum: “This Forum has really changed my view in aspects not only in science but also in life. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and I will definitely pass it on”.
