The 65th London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) took place between 24th July and 7th August 2024. The keynote address at the opening ceremony was delivered by Nobel Prize Winner Professor Gregory Winter. We offered ten scholarships for African students to attend the Forum in person. Of these Monica, Julia, Moses, Muthoni and Annah attended from Kenya, Abhinn attended from Mauritius, Isaac attended from Liberia, Memory attended from Zimbabwe and Ammar attended from Tanzania. Abhinn and Isaac were the first students to represent their respective countries at LIYSF and we were thrilled to see two new flags at the opening ceremony.

These African students took their place alongside over 420 other global young scientists for two weeks of lectures, debates, visits to science institutions and social and cultural interactions.

Due to a visa issue Albert from Tanzania unable to travel to London, but he did attend the Forum virtually through the online platform along with over 20 other YoSA funded students from Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Moses from Kenya wrote about his experiences at the Forum: “This Forum has really changed my view in aspects not only in science but also in life. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and I will definitely pass it on”.
