Report on Progress - Drilling a Well in Kenya

By Johanna Wiest | Project Manager

As the political situation in Kenya is now stable and the holidays are over, the construction of the well in St. Monica Village has been resumed. Currently, the craftsmen are drilling through a layer of rock, beneath which they are expecting to find water. The company that is in charge of drilling the well is sure that they are very close to getting to water now.

In mid-February, a DfA-volunteer will be in Nyabondo and test the quality of the water with a water kit, which has been provided by our partner organization Wasser ohne Grenzen e.V. (Water without Borders).

As soon as the well has been finished, we will initiate measures for maintenance and servicing, in order to guarantee the sustainability of the project so that it can be ensured that the widows will benefit from their new source of water for as long as possible.
