Unfortunately, the political situation in Kenya still is unstable. This affects most notably the Western regions, which is where the compound of the widow´s cooperative is located. After the results of the elections of 8th August were annulled by the Kenyan Supreme Court, an election re-run has taken place on 26th October. However, as the opposition leader Raila Odinga had withdrawn his candidacy in advance and publicly called for a boycott of the election, the turnout was particularly low, and the legitimacy of the results is again being contested. It is at this time unforeseeable how the situation is now going to develop.
Nevertheless, the construction of the well in St. Monica Village has begun. The widows have received the money that had been collected in the course of the Global Giving election campaign and have bought all necessary material. These have been delivered to the site by now. Both the drilling of the well, as well as the construction for the water filter, which will turn the water from the well into drinking water, have been begun and will soon be completed, depending on the development of the political situation. We will send our next project report to you as soon as the construction has been concluded.
