This quarter, Fresh Spirit Wellness for Women, Inc. (FSWW) has hosted an array of events promoting health, wellness, and wholeness to our clients and their families.
FSWW hosted a jolly ole' time for our clients and their children with our 18th Annual Toy Drive and Christmas Extravaganza on December 17, 2022. Festivities included face-painting and games with Mrs. Claus, lunch and an overflowing bag of Christmas toys, bikes, clothes, shoes and other household items. FSWW served 31 families and 62 children with a heartfelt memorable holiday season. Our community sponsors were Jus Jars Restaurant, Pancho Claus, LAMP Services, The Empowered Survivor, Resilience is Beauty, and Greenhouse International Church.
Kicking off 2023, FSWW hosted its 2nd Annual Vision Board Party on January 11th to assist our clients and community with ushering in their new year. With their visionary minds flowing, participants created colorful albums depicting their dreams and goals for the new year. This activity allowed them to identify, outline, transcribe, and personalize their focus points by pictorializing and expressing their decorative visions for their desired outcomes.
Continuing with our empowerment theme in the month of February, FSWW hosted a 2-part Valentine’s Day Series entitled “All About H.E.R. (Health, Emotional Wellness, and Relationship with Self)." This power-packed support group tackled the feelings of loneliness around the Valentine’s Day holiday and offered valuable gems on how to love oneself.
In the month of March, FSWW’s Support Group Team pivoted into another life-giving topic addressing the dynamics of “People Pleasing.” Facilitators unpacked the burdens that many domestic violence victims/survivors deal with, as well as provided them with techniques to break the cycle of falling into a “people please mode” that continues to rob them of their dignity, self-worth and independence.
Both “Take your power back!” series enlightened our clients on their value, garnered their inner strengths, and invited them to see a new and healthier perspective of themselves.
Also, during this quarter, FSWW has provided 42 days of emergency shelter in our Safe Night Hotel Stay Program to clients in dire need of housing.
FSWW’s quarterly stats are as follows: 154 unduplicated clients receiving 785 services inclusive of case management services (food, clothing, storage rental, relocation assistance, baby and household items, emergency shelter, and housing assistance), social services accompaniments, legal advocacy and court accompaniments. 93 crisis counseling/therapy clients receiving 322 hours of counseling and 9 support groups with 87 attendees.
FSWW is eternally grateful for the support received through our GlobalGiving partner, as we acknowledge that our organization would not be able to provide the array of services to our domestic violence clients and their families without financial support.
This year, FSWW is endeavoring to expand our services by acquiring additional funding particularly to address the growing need for emergency housing assistance for domestic violence victims/survivors and their families. FSWW has received an astronomical number of requests for housing, as our clients have escaped abusive situations with no place to go with their children. Due to overcrowded shelters in the Houston-Harris County Metropolitan Area and surrounding counties, we are seeking partnerships with housing developers, builders, housing programs, and other funders to provide our clients with safe housing and a place to build a new life for them and their children.
Due to the confidentiality and safety of our clients, photos are limited.
