Christmas is love expressed, for elderly survivors
Christmas is love expressed, for elderly survivors

Indonesia for Humanity or Indonesia untuk Kemanusiaan (IKa) continues to be enthusiastic in raising funds or other resources and channeling them to victims of human rights violations and human rights defenders (including women human rights defenders/WHRD). This program is called Pundi Insani, which is a forum for raising resources for marginalized communities and human rights defenders (including women human rights defenders) who are affected by cases of human rights violations. Some of what IKa has done include:

  1. Calling donations for the health costs of elderly survivors of past gross human rights violations, especially victims of the 65 tragedy and the Semanggi tragedy. IKa has collected donations of USD 350,- through Pundi Insani and has distributed grants to two elderly survivors of past gross human rights violations whose conditions are in dire need due to their illness. The grant is financed for laboratories, medicine, treatment and transportation.
  2. Emergency response to COVID-19 for Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRD). The COVID-19 pandemic has an impact not only on the handling of women victims of violence but also on their companions or WHRD. Not a few companions have been exposed to COVID-19 and need help because they do not have health protection insurance. Facing this situation, IKa together with Komnas Perempuan took the initiative to raise solidarity funds for companions of women victims of violence through Pundi Perempuan and Pundi Insani. Solidarity with women human rights defenders needs to be done by providing assistance in the form of PCR test costs and self isolation needs (nutritional food, medicines, supplements). Through the method of sending flyers and scanning barcodes, a total of USD 1.505,- was collected. IKa has distributed it to 25 assistants from 5 women crisis center organizations in Indonesia.
  3. Donations for the elderly survivors of human rights violations for the tragedy 65 were made before Christmas with the theme “Christmas Gifts”. The donation amounting to USD 640 was handed over to Fopperham, an organization supporting survivors on December 24, 2021. The grants have been distributed to 46 elderly victims of human rights violations.

We continue to knock on anyone's heart to help victims of human rights violations as well as human rights defenders (including WHRD) to feel safe and comfortable, protected from discrimination and negative stigma, and encourage open access to socio-economic services. The assistance provided was very helpful in the recovery effort as well as continuing to fight for legal justice for the survivors.
