Changing Lives

By Dr.Shabnum Sarfraz | Technical Advisor

Free eye camps for the cataract blind received an overwhelming demand by the patients, so much that the number of camps set up in a year had to be increased to 5 instead of 2 (as mentioned in the program). Out of a total target of 150 patients, 121 received successful Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL) treatment.

Deserving and needy patients who attended the eye camps were offered free surgical expertise by the Fatima Memorial Hospital (FMH).Their IOL treatments and post operative medicines were also provided for free till the patient was finally discharged after about two months.

Most patients were from low socio economic class and were the sole breadwinners of the family. Amongst those was a shop employee who supports a family of seven. He was delaying surgery for economic reasons but with the availability of free cataract treatment, he has been able to benefit from the free eye cataract and IOL surgery camp at FMH. This program changed his and of many others’ who have benefitted substantially from this charitable program.

FMH and Cataract patients are most obliged to their caring donors who have made this treatment successful. Your continued support will facilitate FMH in reaching yet to be treated cataract patients who have not been able to receive treatment due to lack of funding and facilities.
