Animal Spay and Neuter International continues to spay and neuter dogs and cats at the Centre of Hope Hospital. Purposely built by our sister charity Romania Animal Rescue and Animal Spay and Neuter International via donations from the public in 2016 the Centre of Hope is ASNI’s home base in Piteasca near Bucharest. The COH is the first of its kind hospital for animals in Romania that is free of charge for those unable to fund their animal’s treatments. It also cares for sick and ill stray dogs and cats as well as being a centre for spaying and neutering animals and a centre for Veterinary training and education. Currently an extension is being built to house more animals and provide more operating facilities so that more sterilizations can be carried out also.
ASNI was born out of Romania Animal Rescue, having been on a hiking holiday in 2001 in the Carpathian Mountains, Nancy Janes was deeply moved by all the stray dogs and cats on the streets. And vowed that she would come back and do something about it. At that time there was a hand full of charities dealing with this issue through housing stray dogs in shelters. In 2003 Romania Animal Rescue was born to specifically provide spaying and neutering for those that couldn’t afford to sterilize their dogs and cats. No other charity was focusing on this specifically and it remains the most powerful way to reduce the numbers on the streets.
ASNI came into being due to this being a worldwide problem and work has been carried out in many countries including Suriname, Portugal, Greece, The Dominican Republic, Bulgaria, UK and United States by Animal Spay and Neuter International. Campaigns do have a special focus on Romania due to the need there.
Over its lifetime, one un-spayed female dog, with all the puppies produced by all the litters possible one sterilization of one female can stop the birth of 63,000 puppies. As far as cats are concerned the number of kittens runs into millions. If you would like to donate towards our extension it is just 20 euros a brick.
