The Animal Spay and Neuter International veterinary team have been sterilizing cats and dogs at The Centre of Hope Hospital. The surrounding villages around Bucharest has been the focus for this project starting early in the morning where the spay shuttle van travelled out to pick up dogs and cats to take back to the hospital as many owners do not have transport themselves. There they await their turn to be sterilized.
Mass spay campaigns “spayathons” can involve up to 100 animals being operated on in one day. With a large team of vets and vet techs together with volunteers. Vet techs carry out the preparation for surgery, pre-med, shaving the area and volunteers are on hand to carry the animals to the operating room. The Veterinary team headed by Dr Aurelian are highly skilled in keyhole surgery, which is less invasive and takes less time to recover from. Surgery can be carried out in just a few minutes. With wounds amounting to few centimetres long. This is tantamount to the veterinary surgeons’ skills at the hospital.
Once surgery has been completed by a vet the animals are carried to the recovery room where they are monitored closely by vet techs and volunteers. When the effects of anaesthesia have worn off the animals can go home. They are either collected by their owners or taken back home by the spay shuttle.
All of this is only possible due to public donations and the team would like to thank the public profusely for taking part in this project. Supporting us you have raised over $7,000 which will sterilize 314 animals in total.
