Spay and Neuters on Dogs/Cats in Bucharest

The Animal Spay and Neuter International team were in Romania recently for the opening of a new wing at the Center of Hope Hospital. The Patricia Zoline Centre was officially opened with a spay campaign on 17^th October 2022 where 114 dogs and cats were sterilized. The new wing will provide more space to hold sterilization campaigns and care for sick and injured animals for those who cannot afford to fund their dogs and cats own care.

ASNI has also joined forces with Humane Society International to provide even more sterilizations as a team. As well as health benefits and reducing the number of animals on the streets spaying and neutering in turn reduces the number of animals that need homes. Homes are found locally wherever possible for strays that come through the Center of Hope but with less animals less need for exporting to other countries is needed. The UK for instance imports thousands of dogs each year so the need for homes is still great.

At ASNI we tackle the problem at its source, it can cost around £500 to import a dog to another country whereas one spay costs as little as £20! 25 animals can be spayed and neutered for that price reducing the number of births by hundreds of thousands!

It is essential that we stop the cycle of births at its origins. ASNI is determined and committed to doing just that with the view to a Romania that has no more dogs and cats roaming on the streets, and providing every animal with the life they so deserve.

Animal Spay and Neuter International has joined forces with Protectia Animalelor CJ Ilfov and Ilfov County(Bucharest and surrounding vicinity) to spay and neuter 1000 animals in a year. The president of Ilfov County Council Hubert Thuma said in a press release "I am happy to announce that one year from now we will reach every locality in Ilfov, to sterilize common breed dogs and cats for free. A whole year! We aimed to reach two towns per month. A huge effort, which we could not do without good people. I thank Dr. Aurelian Stefan and the entire RAR at Center of Hope team!".

“The Ilfov County Council, through the Animal Protection Bureau, is starting a record campaign of free sterilizations for common breed dogs and cats together with Romania Animal Rescue dba Animal Spay and Neuter International.

Before each campaign, representatives of the respective locality will go door to door and talk about the benefits of animal sterilization, the only way to stop uncontrolled breeding.

Aurelian Stefan, founder of the first social hospital for animals: "I am happy to live the day when local authorities collaborate and get involved with NGOs in improving the situation of animals. Sterilization is the cornerstone of any animal protection action."

The first campaign will take place in Tunari, on September 1, 13, 14 and 15, followed by Branesti. Appointments can be made by phone number 0751 235 009. Any resident of Ilfov can take their common breed animal to be sterilized, regardless of the locality.”

Young volunteers from Protectia Animalelor CJ Ilfov are reaching out to the poorest communities using vans to bring animals to the Center Of Hope Hospital for spay and neuter and veterinary treatment. The animals are then returned to their guardians afterwards.

223 dogs and cats were sterilized in the month of September and In October, the team will go to Bragadiru and Dobroesti. Again in November, to Mogosoaia and Voluntari.
