In our last report back in October, we shared the great news of the incredible increase in sea turtle nest activity at the nesting beaches we protect. Such results were possible thanks to our donors and partners who have supported our work for so long.
Our field technicians are enjoying their break and are getting ready to start the beach surveys next April after their training workshop. Here at the office, we've been working hard to elaborate reports and update our annual management plan to renew our permits. All documents are now in the hands of the environmental agency (DGVS-SEMARNAT), and we are patiently waiting for the results.
One major setback in our plans is the status of our vehicles (ATVs). Although we take good care of them to make them last, the humidity and salty environment on the nesting beach take a toll on our vehicles, and all of them are reaching the end of their lifetime. With the help of our partners, we have secured funds for two new ATVs, and we hope to get them on time for the nesting season, so please keep your fingers crossed.
We need help to buy new parts to fix our third ATV and outboard engine. These vehicles are essential for our work to protect sea turtles. With your donations, we can have them ready to roll! You can also help us by advocating our project with your peers. It takes a village to bring sea turtles from the brink of extinction and we need more villagers to join us.
We will keep you posted on the status of our vehicles and with joyful news from the field, hopefully.
