The disability cards are ready

By Julio Arze | Project Leader

Dear friends of the Tukuy Pacha Association:

In this report we want to communicate the main results we have achieved thanks to your donations to help people with disabilities process their I.D. cards. The people who benefit from this support have been selected with the help of the disability officer of each municipality. Priority has been given to families who have shown commitment and who live in difficult social situations in the municipalities of Cliza, Villa Ribero and Punata of Cochabamba.

We have helped six children, five adolescents and eight adults. The vast majority of cases needed to manage a neurological report, but it has also been necessary to manage physical, visual, auditory and genetic reports. This medical report is very important to qualify the degree of disability of each recipient.

In addition to helping people directly, we have also helped Municipal Disability Attention Units within the municipalities strengthen their care procedures and databases. Thanks to your donation, these people with disabilities can exercise their right to access health, which is very important to improve their living conditions.

A sad note.

During the work we have experienced a very sad situation: one of the beneficiaries of Villa Ribero suffered severe health complications, which ultimately led to his death. His social situation was very complicated: he had a hearing disability, he lived with his mother of 85 years of age and he had very few financial resources available to him.

This person did not have his I.D. card to receive free care in hospitals. Therefore, thanks to the donations we have received, we ensure these people do not lack the documents necessary to be taken care of in a timely manner, to prevent this sad situation from happening again.

With this sad note we are sure that you will understand the great importance for people with disabilities in Bolivia to have their corresponding identification.
