There is even more solar energy at Nyaka Vocational Secondary School (NVSS) than ever before! Six solar panels were installed amongst the roofs of the boy’s dormitory and the computer lab. This additional energy resource is invaluable. Do you ever leave a room and forget to turn off the light? Or fall asleep with the TV on? Many of us are guilty of taking electricity, and especially light, for granted. Imagine how thrilled the boys are now that they have light in their dorm at night and how excited all of the students, and teachers, are to have consistent power in the computer lab!
Other buildings on campus already utilize solar energy but since the boys dorm and computer lab are new, they have been relying on hydroelectricity and often experience many power interruptions. These power interruptions make it difficult for the boys to study at night and make computer access unreliable for all of the students at teachers at NVSS. The solar energy for the boy’s dorm is stored during the day and used at night. The boys can now continue to study even when it gets dark outside. It also allows them to concentrate better because they don’t have to worry about losing power and being stuck in the darkness while they are trying to read or finish an assignment. Everyone at NVSS is also very grateful for having computers that they can use more often.
NVSS is lit up more than ever before. Thank you so much! But wait, there’s still more to be done. Can you help complete NVSS? By doing so, you will be providing a school where poverty stricken, HIV/AIDS orphans transform into successful, educated leaders of tomorrow!
