Keep a student in school

YASHON RUNS THE FINAL RACE

In 2021, Affecto Foundation identified a zealous and hardworking young man who had not had an opportunity to join secondary school. The young man had been taken through his primary education through a fundraiser done by his primary school teachers. This could only sustain him in school for some years. Yashon, had to find other means of making ends meet in order to proceed with his education. He started working as a manual laborer at a quarry during school holidays. This enabled him to complete his primary education. Yashon kept working at the quarry until we identified him. His eyes were full of hope that he would eventually go back to class.

Affecto Foundation onboarded Yashon into the education program together with 19 more students. They have been under the wing of Affecto Foundation’s scholarship and mentorship workshop for the past four years. We have raised them, we have mentored them and identified the areas they are talented in. Having identified Yashon’s passion in debate and journalism, we give him and others a platform to showcase their talent during our mentorship workshops.

This is their final term in secondary school. The 15 students will be sitting for their final examination in December 2023. They have showcased great potential over the four years. Their dreams are our dreams. We are excited to see them excel in this phase of life and in the years to come.

AFFECTO ONBOARDS THIRTY-TWO MORE BENEFICIARIES

AFFECTO'S THIRD COHORT EXCELS

In 2022, twenty-three scholars at Affecto Foundation’s Watoto Wasome program sat for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), marking the end of High School education.These are students who began high school in 2019. We have had mentorship programs, motivational trips,catered for their school fees and scholastic support;uniform,personal shopping and books.

It has been a worthwhile journey. We have seen them grow, we have reprimanded them, and eventually,all our candidates qualified to join higher institutions of learning.

Owino is one of the students who did KCSE In 2022. When he joined Affecto Foundation’s education program, he was a timid young man with low self-esteem. He could hardly articulate his thoughts. Owino’s roots are not stable either. He has had challenges coping with family wrangles. Poverty alone was not the enemy, peace rarely dwelt in their homestead. Not once did he have to call Affecto Foundationto to come to his rescue.

With all these hurdles working against Owino, he managed to excel academically. He scored a B- in his final examinations and he can’t wait to join university.

He is planning on working in a local primary school before he joins university.

He is an ambitious young man, and we have no doubt that he will improve his family’s livelihood. With the skills learnt from the mentorship workshops at Affecto Foundation including President’s Award, which is the Kenya’s chapter of the Duke of Edinburg’s program,we are confident his future is luminous.

Affecto Foundation is honored to be associated with the GlobalGiving community. We would not have seen the victory of the twenty-three students from cohort three without your support.
