This quarter we trained 60 financial institution employees to identify red flags for human trafficking. The research shows that most survivors of trafficking have regular interactions with professionals who miss opportunities to see something and say something.
Ask questions when:
* an individual appear to be coached on what to say, lacks freedom to leave their living situation or appears fearful, timid or submissive.
* the same phone number or address is given by multiple unrelated customers.
* the same owner or authorized signer on accounts are used by multiple (4 or more) people who appear unrelated.
* the individuals appears to be escorted by a third party to make a business transaction.
* the individual's lifestyle is inconsistent to the business and lacks expected lifestyle transactions such as payroll, mortgage/rent payment, insurance and or utility payments.
Human Trafficking is when an individual is forced, coerced or fraudulently employed. No single red flag is a clear indicator of trafficking but by asking questions and understanding a person's situation, victims can become survivors.
