Sponsor an Angel's Education in South Africa

My name is Alessandra, I am from Venezuela. My husband is Andres, he is from Ecuador. We both went to the Netherlands to study a Master, which is where we met. We are currently still living and working in the Netherlands.

In 2018 I had to go to South Africa for work. I spent there a total of two weeks, but it was enough time to fall in love with the people, as well as the incredible wild live. It was my first time in Africa, so I had never seen anything like it. However, it was also enough time to realize how much social inequality is still present in the country.

This is why when I came back from my trip, together with my husband we decided that the best way of helping would be trough offering help in the education of a child. We believe that a good education is the best tool a child can have to prepare them for a better future. While searching for an organization, we came across African Angels.

When we approached them for information they were very open and quickly explained the process, which was very nice because we had never done anything like this before. They told us that we would be sponsoring the education of Babusise, they gave us an introduction of her and her family.

Since then, we receive periodic updates on her education and progress, which is a nice way of connecting with her. Also, whenever we receive a video from Caroline of Babusise, either opening a present or a letter from us, or just talking about her favorite things and her family, it makes my whole day! She is this lovely, beautiful girl full of energy! 

We are really happy to have encountered this organization, because we were given the opportunity to contribute in the education of a beautiful girl, while in return we get a sense of fulfillment and joy that comes from helping others.

Two decades after apartheid it is still the case that the life chances of the average South African child are determined not by their ability, or the result of hard-work and determination, but instead by the colour of their skin, the province of their birth, and the wealth of their parents.

At African Angels we have been running our sponsorship programme since we started, before we had a school, since 2008.  Nopinkie is one of our very first sponsored Angels.  Leigh and Rich, a blended Australian and South African couple, have been supporters of Nopinkie and her family, since then.  As one of our oldest learners, Nopinkie is ready to go to high school, and has been fortunate to be accepted into an excellent high school, some distance from her home in Chintsa.  Leigh and Rich have also sponsored Iva since 2008, until today.  In 2020 Iva will attend a private high school, on a full bursary.  The first that this particular school has ever offered and we are confident she will succeed, because of her educational foundation received at African Angels.

Leigh and Rich's generosity has enabled Iva to attend African Angels since she started school, giving her a quality primary school education, so she can now compete at one of the best high schools in our city for the rest of her school education, graduating with an internationally recognized high school leaving certificate.  Iva will return home every day to her home in the nearby township, which is rife with crime, violence, social problems, including drug and alcohol abuse, a very far cry from her much wealthier school mates much more comfortable home lives. The gap between rich and poor in South Africa is one of the biggest in the world.  

There is much talk about moving from generosity to justice when we talk about non profit organisations. We believe that everyone is equally deserving of dignity, opportunities, and fairness, and we seek justice everywhere.  Leigh and Rich's generosity over the years has seen justice delivered to Iva.  Your generosity as a sponsor will see justice delivered to your sponsored child in the future.
