Periods know no nationality, tribe, social or economic status yet for young girls in Katakwi district in Eastern part of Uganda, onset or anticipation of periods carries with it stress, loss of school attendance days, shame and teasing from the boys. A situation that is made worse by their lack of access to sanitary pads and menstrual edication where many end up using cloth rags. Because every girl and woman desrves to experience her periods with dignity, pride and joy, we launched and expanded our Menstrual Health Program in Katakwi district targeting one of the most impoverished parts of the district. Since January 2022 when schools opened, We are been providing monthly sanitary pads and menstrual health education to 16 primary school going girls at Amorwongora Primary School in Ngariam County, Katakwi district. Katakwi district is ranked among the top poorest districts in Uganda and Ngariam County where the school we serve ranks amongst the poorest part of the district. The girls we are supporting are poor with many of them testifying using rags of clothes to experience their menstruation.
As we continue to serve the refugee girls, our hearts are touched and feel blessed that we can reach out to other poor girls in Katakwi district to ensure every girl, everywhere regularly attends her school clases, completes her education and attains good school grades by providing healthy sanitary pads and giving menstrual health education.
We are grateful to you our donors who continue to make this work possible through your generosity. We will be grateful if you shared the about our project with your networks and spread the word on eliminating period poverty and stigma.
