Dear friends of GlobalGiving and of Fundacion Dones de Misericordia, we hope that this year 2023 is bringing blessings and joy to your lives and those of your loved ones.
All the staff and volunteers are very grateful that you have joined or continue helping to provide children with high quality comprehensive education where they can develop their skills in all cognitive, physical and emotional areas and thus shape their dreams and achieve them.
Fundacion Dones de Misericordia, through its Dones de Misericordia Educational Institution, for this year 2023 continues with the initiative to strengthen the educational process that has been carried out since last year in Tierra Bomba Island, since the great gap in this regard.
By making a parallel with other institutions in the city of Cartagena and even in the country, it has observed the shortcomings and educational needs that exist from the current demands both in the field of social performance and in a future job projection.
Taking the above into account, the decision was made to open more educational levels from kindergarten to third grade of primary school and the total quota provided for these levels was achieved.
An education based on values and educational quality is offered and we continue with the Reggio Emilia methodology for early childhood, which has been merged taking into account the mission and vision of the foundation. Likewise, a strategic alliance was made with the Colegio Corporación Educativa Gutiérrez de Piñeres, an entity recognized in the city of Cartagena for its high commitment to personalized education and values. The parents and guardians were summoned to carry out the recognition and the pertinent agreements for the administrative process.
We have focused on literacy and math activities; construction of habits, awareness of the use of common spaces such as bathrooms, sinks, dining room, park and playroom, to guarantee the proper use of them and the resources of these spaces such as water, a vital element on the island that currently does not exist. It does not have an aqueduct or sewage system.
We have implemented strategies to avoid and reduce school absenteeism with the implementation of a daily and weekly attendance to take immediate actions with parents and guardians and thereby raise awareness among parents and caregivers about the importance of daily attendance in learning. Continuous and/or strengthening of the children's self-esteem. From this observation we have observed a volume of daily absence on average that ranges from 20% to 30%, the most affected group being Explorers, with the main characteristic in general being viral flu conditions which are usually constant at this time of year due to strong breezes in the area.
In the same way, the psychosocial team begins the process of characterizing the population so that, based on the results, the workshops for parents are structured and, in addition, each boy and girl can be reached based on their individual and/or collective needs. We have 19 people in our work team.
Parallel to the educational process, commemorative events have been held such as Women's Day, Men's Day, children's birthdays from January to March, we highlight inclusion processes with Down Syndrome Day and the sweet-as-rescue festival. of the traditions.
