Recruiting Green Leaders, Green Nights/Cleanup

This past summer and early fall we made great progress in taking the next steps of the final phase of Green City Hackathon. The actions were focused mainly in three areas.

1- Recruiting Green Leaders for the Green City Hackathon. We posted an add inviting high school, college and university student to apply to be part of the Green City Hackathon. In addition, we asked them to provide some info about themselves, their background and their goals. Furthermore, they were asked to submit their ideas to compete for the prices and scholarships that Green Line Albania will sponsor at the end of the Green City Hackathon.

2- In addition, we organized the green nights, where the applicants, their community including children and others can camp out outdoors where environmental topics were discussed and where everyone can connect with nature. Several fun activities took place during Green Nights such as volleyball, music, dominos, movie night and etc. There were about 100 people per each Green Nights over 12 weekends for a total of about 1200 participants.

3- The day following the Green nights several cleanup actions took place in the cities, villages when the Green Nights were happening. During the cleanup actions mostly in the Albanian coast line the communities, schools, institutions and other NGO were included and engaged. About 500 people per clean up action and a total of about 6000 people over 30 days helped clean up, rivers, lakes and beach shores collecting over 80 tones of waste.

Summer Team Building through real actions

Dear Green Friends & Partners,

This has been a very intense period for Green City Hackathon team. We are so excited to share with You the first results.

After launching the online registration process, we have received many applications to the date and the interest is growing from day to day. Students from different fields of studies and expertise has applied to be part of the First Edition of Green City Hackathon. The GCH Team now is working in three main directions to further develop the project:

• Undertaking the selection process of the received applications

• Designing the training modules

• Designing new fundraising strategy campaign to achieve the funding goal

The next steps to be taken are to organize meetings with the selected applicants and to make them part of the summer environmental challenges that Green Line Albania is undertaking. The applicants will have the opportunity to get involved and have a first hands touch in environmental situation in Albania. During summer time they will be part of a Team Building process through organising Hackathon Coastal Clean Up Actions!

Green City Hackathon - First Steps

GC Hackathon Prizes

Dear Green Friends & Partners,

This has been a very intense period for Green City Hackathon team, as this is our most ambitious project to date. Thanks to your contribution, we earned a permanent spot on GlobalGiving and started to work for the implementation of the project in Albania. We are so excited to share with You our first steps.

We have started the promotion of our project in national media (https://youtu.be/YCnQlcLDCZM & https://goo.gl/QrdJxz).

During this preparatory phase, we have officially presented the Prizes that will be awarded to the winners of the First Edition of Green City Hackathon in Albania, as follow:

First GC Hackathon Prize – Starting from 3.000 USD
Second GC Hackathon Prize – Starting from 1.500 USD
Third GC Hackathon Prize – Starting from 800 USD
10 Green City Goals Prizes – Starting from 500 USD
Hackathon Community Prize – The Big Surprise, to be unvieled in the final ceremony.

We launched a dedicated web page of the project in “Beta Version” and we are currently working to make it better and to enrich it with all necessary information about the project. Below the link: https://www.greencityhackathon.org

As the social media is the first door of information for the young generation, we created profiles of Green City Hackathon in different social media channels like Facebook, Twitter & Instagram, where we share informations about the project.
