Time to Feed the Pupils

When the GlobalGiving accepted our membership in December 2019, FEEDING A CHILD TO STAY IN SCHOOL was our first project. This was necessary because though feeding program seems like every time consuming any little cash we collect, it was the main reason why the children in the slums were coming to school. Without the feeding program, majority of them would be back in the streets scavenging for food with no care for their future.

Fundraising through GlobalGiving has been a great boost which has seen us see improvement of class attendance, concentration in class during teaching and general excitement to the learners. Indeed no child can learn with an empty stomach.

Our appeal to you is that though it may look like in feeding a child there is no immediate result but in the long term, the impact is seen when many children not only stay in school but have enhanced opportunity to complete their schooling and have livelihood after.

We therefore continue to appeal to you to help us cultivate and develop the three (3) acres of agricultural land already available. We have a plan to begin cultivating and carry some irrigation from the already acquired waterpan which we managed to gather the community and drill in 2015. As we reported in the last report that doing this would save 70% of our feeding budget and this would be a sure way of not only sustaining the feeding program but agriculture will become one source of our income generating projects.

We appeal to at least each of you who have contributed, that if twenty (20) of us each give at least a one time giving of $100 we will manage to prepare the farm which subsequently will regenerate itself and help us save and sustain the feeding program. In fact if this is done, it will go along way to avoid the headache of needing US$2,000 every month to feed the increasing population of the beneficiaries which is now above 400 in number.

We thank those who contributed towards the feeding program for the past reporting period. Your contribution is the reason we are becoming more stronger and determined in this post COVID-19 era.

There is much work, sacrifice for that needy child and God will bless you!

FEEDING - A GREAT MOTIVATOR TO STAY

Bulk Food Purchase - Feeding Program

Apart from ensuring that we strive to pay our 53 staff within the two counties - that is Kisumu and Nairobi where we operate, Feeding Program continues not to be an option but the only means through which we can keep these children in school otherwise majority will go back to the street scavenging for food in the gabbage dump or dustbins and the result will be no future for them!

Sheepcare in its endeavour to give a needy child hope has continued to provide food to its population of over 400 children with hot lunches and breakfast. Sometimes for the very needy cases we have provided food supply to their guardians. Feeding Program is among our major budget item where we need Kes 200,000 (US$2,000) to meet the monthly budget if we are to give a balance diet necessary for the child development.

It has always been our vision to get involve in agricultural production of food crops needed for our feeding program like Maize and Beans. Towards this, we have acquired about 3 acres of land in Kisumu county which we intend to use to plant the necessary food crops that will reduce our budget requirement to almost 30% of the current total. Cheap labor will be provided by the very beneficiaries.

Already we have a dam which has water throughout the seasons which can make us produce the crops anytime throughout the year. Our need is to do irrigation from the dam to the agriculture land which need a budget of about US$2,000 to help in piping, ploughing and purchasing of irrigation equipment. This will be possible once and subsequently we would save 70% of our monthly budget which we hardly meet for the past months.

Through your giving and also a grant we got in July from AirBnB, we have managed to feed the children well but we MUST look for a sustainable way of keeping the feeding program going.

Our appeal to you is to help us once and for all to grow our own food and that will be a great way of ensuring Sheepcare grow and fulfil its vision of tranforming poor communites. If each one of you sacrifice only US$100 per month, we would meet Feeding Program budget easily. I sincerely appeal to you to come to our aid and let the children be kept in school

FEEDING INCENTIVE TO LEARNING

Beans bought in bulk for Feeding Program

With the escalting prices and the need to feed over 400 pupils and student in Nairobi and almost 100 in Kisumu we increasingly need a constant monthly contribution. For the reporting period covering February to April 2021, we received a total of US$3,854.63 from our donors towards the Feeding Project during and outside the globalGiving Fundraising campaign. Together with our internal collection, we managed at the begining of the term to buy in bulk enough Maize and beans to last the whole term ending July 2021. The cereal is a major ingredient of the feeding program. Since the start of the term in May, we have had a constant supply of hot lunch and breakfast for our two centres. The students/pupils are motivated. Parents are grateful as this cut the cost in their budget for food and also to provide breakfast and lunch which the majority rarely afford.

Though feeding program is always consuming but its impact is clearly seen when a child who could have gone back to the street do well and stay in school. We are very grateful to you and all our donors who have enabled us to achieve this impact. Your donation is the reason these children are staying in school. Staying and completing school is the only surest way of giving these needy children hope for the future. No child can concentrate with an empty stomach.

We thank you for choosing to support us and continue to appeal for your support. Our appeal and prayer is that if we can get monthly commitment of US$200 from just 15 donors, we will never have any problem in feeding the growing population of our beneficiaries. Having more monthly donations provides ongoing support and GlobalGiving has promised to match 200% any consistent monthly giving from any donor. The impact would be clearly seen in their performance, healrth and incentive to learn. This would be fulfillment of our vision and we would have served our generation and make the world better than we found it.
