Hello supporters and supporters to be!

We have some very exciting updates since our report last quarter! Thank you everyone who has donated over the past quarter. Your support has really helped boost progress with the Smart Agri Centre project in Mbata and the surronding communities.

So, let's talk about UPDATES:

1. We have installed the power room in Mukorokumi (the community nearby Mbata also with a Smart Agri Centre), meaning that power will be available for the community there to use for powering the income-generating services available at the centre.

2. This quarter also marks one full year of the Smart Agri Centre being functional in Mbata, meaning that we have been able to collect very useful impact data. Our Innovex remote monitoring system and wifi has kept track of temperature, humidity and door opening/ closing within the Cold Store at the Smart Agri Centre. We can use this data to inform training for cold store usage. This will be incredibly useful for training the community in Mukorokumi for when the project is functioning again.

Also, we have some fantastic impact data:

1. We discovered that smallholder farmers in Mbaata with access to the SAC saw their profits quadruple after one year

2. Smallholder farmers in Mbata with access to the SAC saw their costs reduce by 30% after just one year.

3. 1/3 of farmers in Mbata said that using the Smart Agri Centre had direct positive impact on their disposable income.

HOW will your donations help?

Whilst progress has been made, this project needs more funding in order to meet the needs of the community. Since the installation of the Smart Agri Centre, we have seen the community co-operatives come together and push towards starting new initiatives in order to increase their income. Specifically, the farmers’ co-operative in Mbata have requested wet coffee processing as an additional service at the Smart Agri Centre.

Gaining access to this service will be hugely beneficial to the wider community in Mbata. Please give generously to enable us to scale and improve this project, in order to empower rural farmers in Uganda to increase their farming productivity and improve their livelihoods.

What else can you do?

Please share this project report on your social media and within your personal network! It would mean a great deal.

Thank you for your support!

All the best,

Iona and the Smart Villages Team
