We are thrilled to have 539 children enrolled and attending school.
The Kenyan government is changing the education system to fit American standards of class progression. This means that the primary grades of 7, 8 and 9 will now be considered Junior High School. To begin the transition, this school year has the first class of 7th graders. Next year, plans are to add 8th grade. Ninth grade will then be introduced the following year.
Expenses for this transition are huge. Instead of the customary $25 for school uniforms, the cost for uniforms has increased to as much as $60. With the new Junior High covering more instructional classes and a wider variety of topics within one term, the cost of scholastic materials and books have also increased dramatically.
We are uncertain how much the cost of testing will increase, but assume that it will be substantial.
Education is the key tool to lift these children out of poverty and set them on a path to success. We thank you for your support of empowering Kenyan girls and boys with education.
