Our new Class

By Norman Mayers | Program Director of Creative Thinkers Lab

"What if we could develop innovative creative thinking strategies to obtain our 'Dream Job'? In our last cycle some of our older students asked us to develop a class to explore that exact question. So we did! Participating in this exciting new class, students will learn how to research and define the job of their dreams, develop killa portfolios, put together a pitch and master interviews.

Ethan, one of our students, shared: "This class is really helping me to understand and communicate the power of being myself."

My Dream Job is a combination of real-world assignments solidify concepts which require students to use their creativity to solve problems in unconventional ways on themselves, in order to move closer to their dream careers. The class also connects successful creative thinkers from around the world to share stories, personal experiences and knowledge with the students.

The students are currently working on five different projects:
  1. The Sustainable Warriors website is a youth-led initiative dedicated to sharing sustainable solutions that tackle environmental issues all over the world.  https://www.sustainablewarriors.net/
  2. Students are developing a concept and proposal for a new online game set in the Caribbean, year 2121, where a group of genetically modified teenagers must prevent the second climate crisis from destroying the world.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGabab2ejBg
  3. Students are producing a music video for a German song about diversity, called 'Ich bin die Rose'.
  4. The EverydayCaribbean is a photo project where a team of photographers develop and share visual stories centering around Caribbean customs and culture on Instagram.
  5. My Dream Job is our newest class that helps students join the workforce by following their strengths and passions.
To be able to conduct these types of classes, we need to have an engaged borderless community of people like you. Your donations are helping us to continue providing these much-needed learning experiences. Thank you for your continued support!

As always, we are deeply grateful to you for supporting students like Ethan as well as the work of the Caribbean Dyslexia Centre.

Yours truly,
Norman Mayers
