YEAR 2023

We welcome the near year with joy and gratitude. Currently the organization is a home for 104 children with various disabilities. Our main focus is to strengthen our service delivery and see a rising number of children empowered through our services. The compassionate hands family are well prepared and ready for the year. We have systems in place and a well outlined service delivery plan which we hope to adhere through the year.

GLOBAL GIVING PARTNERSHIP

The GlobalGiving partnership with compassionate hands for the disabled is fruitful relationship which enables the organization undertaking various services through donations. First and foremost we are very thankful to God for being with us through the year 2022. We are able to reflect and see how far we have come. We would also like to recognize GlobalGiving for their dedication through the years; with you support in 2022 you have been able to support various initiatives in the organization. The projects supported bring positive impact to the beneficiaries which during the year were 104 children with various disabilities. Some of the projects supported will be highlighted below:

  • Development projects- this is a wide area which included initiatives to support arising challenges in the institution, equip various departments in the organization and support towards sustainability of the organization. Some of the projects supported through the year include purchase of various resources for rehabilitation, support towards health and medication and a boost towards sustainable projects in the organization among many more. Through support from GlobalGiving we are able to see transformation in various departments which have brought positive impact towards the children living environment.

Achievements in 2022

Briefly we will outline the major achievements in each department in the organization. We have been able to evaluate how we have come by the objective set at the beginning of the year and below is how the organization has performed.

  1. Therapy and rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is the backbone of the organizations essential services; this area is coordinated by 2 physiotherapists and an occupational therapist. Each child is able to access therapy services routinely according to their needs. In this department the following achievements have been observed through the year.

  • Improved leg, neck and hand muscle strength
  • Improved sitting positioning
  • Improved body posture
  • Reduced contracture development among many children
  • Reduced stiffness and spasticity
  • An increased number of children acquiring range of motion
  • Increased participation in activities of daily living
  • Steady growth and development

    2. Education

The organization advocates for an inclusive education which entails an elaborate individual educational program for every child. In this department we have special teachers for each category of disability who are able to coordinate with caregivers and therapist to deliver the educational programs to the children. Our educational programs include formal, informal and vocational trainings. In this department the following achievements have been observed through the year.

  • Increased number of children improved on their communication skills
  • Increased number of children learning to read and write
  • Most children are able to acquire skills of dailyliving
  • Increased number of children gaining self-reliance

           3. Health and medication

Through this program the children are able to have access to proper medical services and also availability of the daily medication drugs required by most of the children. The organization was able to enroll to the national hospital insurance fund, and through it children are able to get medical attention from a local hospital and an affordable fee.

Some of the children are also able to have their regular clinic checkups. The following are the achievement observed in the above department.

  • Reduced convulsion episodes amongst children with the underlying condition
  • Access to daily medication hence having a good reception to medication
  • Decreased attacks from opportunistic illness
  • Positive health improvement observant in a majority number of children

          4. Sustainable development

The organization has a vision to strengthen the sustainable projects of the organization; these projects are the future income generating projects for the children in the future. Our study shows that at the full potential the projects will be able to cover nearly 70% of the total running budget of the organization. The projects include:

  • Dairy project
  • Greenhouse project
  • Poultry project
  • Piggery project
  • Water project

Challenges faced

  • During the year we experienced a hike in food and basic commodities prices inthe country, this resulted in shortage in food supply and medication.
  • We also experienced challenges in the sustainable project, since the escalation inprices also affected animal feeds prices and shortage; this resulted in deterioration in production.
