Your support for the Global Smile Foundation Fund for Children With Cleft in Lebanon/MENA helped make possible life-changing comprehensive cleft care for underserved patients in the region.
During the November 2021 mission, our volunteers were able to provide:
There are so many patients waiting for care in this region. Cleft occurs more frequently in the Middle East than in other areas of the world. Approximately 1 in every 420 babies born in this region has a cleft lip and/or palate—on average 3-4 times higher than in developed countries.
In addition, the ongoing humanitarian and refugee crises in the region have increased the number of underserved patients living in Lebanon while also making access to specialized care even more difficult because so many skilled surgeons and providers have left the region.
This project will be transitioned to our next trip to Lebanon in April 2022. We hope you will consider continuing to support our patients this year.
