YouMeWe NPO Update on 600 computers in 2020/2021
By Michael Clemons | Founder
![]()
We are receiving more and more donated computers and have a quick process now to get them to the homes making requests.
Since our last update, we now have upgraded computers in homes that had new PCs in 2013 but now are enjoying more recent models with touchscreens.
We have received requests from new homes in Kyoto and Osaka so now we stretch from Iwate-ken in Tohoku all the way down to Nagasaki and over 1,000 computers in the field now with more computers coming and filling more requests.
This is not only helpful in connecting with new homes but also we find that some youth who have gone to university and had their computers crash are able to get replacements from us they otherwise would not be able to afford.
The COVID crisis raised the need to be connected and online and we were happy to be positioned to help where possible.
Thanks to you and your generous contributions.
Thank you,
YouMeWe NPO

600 computers for 600 Japanese Orphanages Report

We continue to roll out computers to homes that have made requests. We are also increasing the number of units where the demand has increased.
While we are continuing to go along the Ancient 53 Stations of Tokaido, we have made a new path along the homes situated along the path Andy Abbey rode last year on his bicycle from the top of Japan along the length of the island.
We received 58 laptops from Gensler. We placed iMacs in a new home in Yokohama. We increased the number of units in Nagoya, sent new units to a home in Funabashi and as far as Nagasaki.
We are also issuing laptops to children who have aged out of their homes but do not have their own devices. Some in university and some are looking for jobs.
We have classes now weekly online. People teaching from the US to Japan. We have contact with our collaborations in Ghana and the Philippines and trying to bring the whole experience of an information society alive for the population we support.
Thank you for your generous support.

600 computers for 600 Japanese Orphanages 2021

We are very fortunate to be getting computers donated to us and at the same time making contact with more homes in Japan.
We have rented a temporary storage unit to hold the inventory until it is ready to be shipped out to the receiving homes.
There are 50 laptops being readied and sent out in Hiroshima. We upgraded 4 laptops to increase the class size in Nagoya and the ten laptops in Iwate are currently online and being monitored for upgrades and virus scanning.
We will be giving computers to any of the kids who will be graduating high school this year and need their own device to continue their studies or for their personal use.
One of the challenges we are having is that we are allotted a certain number of licenses per two years via TechSoup so will have to have each home join TechSoup in order to get the Operating Licenses necessary to make the donated computers operational.
Thank you so much for your contributions, we will not rest until all homes in Japan, which we have access to via email and have been inviting to our Staff Seminars, have their own device.
Regards,
YouMeWe NPO
